University of Evansville Launches $80 Million Capital Campaign
The University of Evansville today announced the public launch of U•Envision 2010, a comprehensive capital campaign to raise $80 million—the largest capital campaign in the University's 153 year history. U•Envision 2010 will transform the University campus in countless ways with particular focus on:
- Growing the University's endowment to increase student scholarships and provide additional funds for educational programs.
- Enhancing the campus learning environment through the addition of a stand alone School of Business Administration building and a new University Center.
Alan Braun, chair of the U•Envision 2010 National Steering Committee, said, "Thanks to the generosity of our Trustees and loyal friends, nearly $46 million has been raised to date. This is a clear statement of the faith that our donors have in UE's bright future."
Braun continued, "This is the largest campaign in the history of the University of Evansville, as well as the largest campaign launched in the history of the Tri-state area." Braun stressed that while the amount of money raised is exciting, it is what we are doing with the funds that is most important to the University, its students, and the community.
Dr. Stephen G. Jennings, president of the University of Evansville, concurred with Braun and said, "We are already feeling the impact of the generosity of our many loyal donors. With the success of an early campaign goal, we have completed the first phase of the new Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building, and construction of the Ridgway University Center is well underway. These new facilities will transform the learning environment and allow us to better serve our students and community."
Jennings continued, "U•Envision 2010 allows the University to build upon its five-year strategic plan which centers on delivering academic excellence as we develop global citizens. This campaign allows us to do just that."
The campaign agenda is a result of a comprehensive assessment of the future needs of the University: Areas that were identified include:
-
Growing our Endowment from $68,000,000 to over $100,000,000. Permanent endowment funds allow the University to invest in scholarships that assist families with the challenges of funding a quality private higher education and to develop innovative programs that are critical to our students' education. A larger endowment means that more scholarship support will be available for students and for delivering excellent academic programs. Critical highlights of the U•Envision 2010 campaign agenda include:
- $12 million for Student Scholarships
- $10 million for Faculty Chairs and Professorships
- $2 million for Endowed Honors Program
- $2 million for Undergraduate Research
- $2 million for Student Life Programs
- $2 million for Academic Support
- $3 million for Diversity Outreach
- $8 million to Support Athletics
-
Creating an Enhanced Learning Environment. The University of Evansville is committed to providing an environment for student success. It is clear that creating a dynamic, active learning environment supports this goal. The campaign agenda to enhance the learning environment includes:
- New Learning Space: $9 million for The Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-registered building which "opened for business" on August 29, 2007.
- New University Center: $16 million for the Dr. William L. Ridgway University Center. Construction is currently underway for the new building initiative and is expected to be completed by December 2008. The 90,000 square ft. Ridgway University Center will be the largest building on the campus and is a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED)-registered building.
- New Learning Facilities: $3 million for academic facilities such as an exercise science lab, upgrade of nursing labs, capital improvements to the Bower-Suhrheinrich Library, and classrooms that will be utilized by the entire campus.
- New Support for Harlaxton College: $3 million for Harlaxton College which includes a Harlaxton facilities endowment for the Manor House and Manor structures and the Harlaxton technology fund.
Recognizing the important transformative impact of U•Envision 2010, President Stephen Jennings notes, "The campaign will help us continue to build a bright future for the University of Evansville. The stage is set to capitalize on this momentum and sharpen our global competitive edge."
